Basic Instructional Techniques (BIT)

Classroom Course

This two-day course is designed to provide participants with information on various instructional techniques that will assist them in their roles as mentors, trainers and facilitators within their organizations. During this course, participants will also gain practical experience in public speaking, presenting and instructing.

Course topics include:

  • basic communication principles
  • dealing with anxiety
  • public speaking and presentation skills
  • effective use of audio and visual aids
  • adult education strategies
  • organizing, planning and leading effective training sessions
  • classroom management
  • mentoring and facilitation


This course contains several interactive workshops to actively build participants’ skills and confidence in public speaking. Participants should plan to spend about one hour on the evening of Day One preparing a presentation for Day Two.



*This course was designed to provide information on training techniques to assist participants in the ACSA Train-the-Trainer programs (WHMIS, TDG and/or Flagger).
